    Description

Reading Tutor-Struggling Young Readers Need You for the 2026-2027 School Year!

Share the gift of reading and help change a child’s future!

Become a literacy tutor and mentor with Empowering Readers OC (EROC). We are currently seeking volunteers ages 50+ as we expand for the 2026–2027 school year.

Students in our program are often reading 1–2 years below grade level, and early literacy is critical: children not reading proficiently by 4th grade are 4x less likely to graduate high school.

As a tutor, you’ll work one-on-one with 2–3 students in grades 1–5, meeting twice a week for 30-minute sessions to build their reading skills and confidence. NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED! We will provide all the training and ongoing support to help tutors thrive.

Tutoring is both in-person (at various sites throughout Orange County) and virtual (via Zoom) where tutoring opportunities are available. Partners include:

    • Boys & Girls Clubs of Fullerton
    • Boys & Girls Club of Tustin
    • Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley
    • Boys & Girls Club of San Clemente
    • Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley
    • Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach
    • Heroes Elementary, Santa Ana Unified School District
    • Kinoshita Elementary, Capistrano Unified School District
    • Templo Calvario, Empowered Scholars at Edward B. Cole Sr. Academy
    • HIVE Program, Santa Ana
    • Carl E Gilbert Elementary, Buena Park School District
    • Unidos South OC, San Juan Capistrano
