    Description

Bilingual in Spanish Intern and Volunteer Program Coordinator, (Remote)

The Akari Foundation is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Intern and Volunteer Program Coordinator to support the coordination, management, and documentation of all interns and volunteers across the organization. This position begins as an internship and offers a clear pathway to a paid, full-time Manager role based on performance, organizational needs, and funding availability.

This role is essential to ensuring that interns and volunteers are well coordinated, properly documented, and supported in a primarily remote environment, allowing Akari’s programs, fundraising, and operations to function efficiently.

    Core Responsibilities

    Intern and Volunteer Coordination

    • Support recruitment, screening, and placement of interns and volunteers
    • Coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes.
    • Maintain clear role descriptions, expectations, and assignments.
    • Coordinate schedules, workloads, and availability.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for interns and volunteers
    • Support accountability and follow up on assigned tasks

    Hours Tracking and Compliance

    • Track intern and volunteer hours accurately and consistently
    • Manage timesheets, reports, and, when applicable, academic credit documentation.
    • Provide verified hour logs and completion confirmations.
    • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external requirements

    Documentation and Records Management

    • Maintain intern and volunteer files, agreements, and required forms
    • Manage confidentiality agreements and onboarding documentation
    • Organize and update records in internal systems and shared drives.
    • Support documentation needs for grants, audits, and reporting

    Communication and Coordination

    • Schedule and facilitate orientations, trainings, and regular check-ins
    • Communicate expectations, deadlines, and updates clearly.
    • Coordinate with program leads to align intern and volunteer support with organizational needs.
    • Escalate issues to leadership as needed, with proposed solutions

    Program Support and Growth

    • Assist in improving intern and volunteer workflows and systems
    • Track participation, retention, and outcomes
    • Prepare regular updates and reports for leadership.
    • Support recognition and retention efforts

    Time Commitment and Structure

    • 10 to 15 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks
    • Fully remote with regular virtual check-ins
    • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
    • Strong organization, follow-through, and communication are essential

    Pathway to Full Time

This role is designed as a growth opportunity. Strong performance, demonstrated leadership, and effective coordination of interns and volunteers may lead to a paid, full-time Intern and Volunteer Program Manager position as funding and organizational capacity allow.

    Qualifications

    • Strong organizational and administrative skills
    • Experience coordinating interns, volunteers, or teams preferred
    • Comfortable tracking hours, documentation, and compliance requirements
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to manage systems and workflows in a remote environment
    • Detail-oriented, reliable, and proactive
