    Description

    About Us

Project Sunshine is an international, volunteer-led nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing joy, creativity, and play to children and families facing medical challenges. Through play-based programming, we support the emotional well-being of pediatric patients by creating opportunities for creative expression, connection, and relief from the stress of medical care.

Project Sunshine programs reach children across the country through activity kits, virtual play experiences, and partnerships with medical facilities and disease-specific nonprofits. At the heart of our work is the belief that play is a powerful tool for healing.

    Youth Chapter Opportunity

Project Sunshine’s High School Chapter Initiative empowers students to lead meaningful service projects in their schools and communities while supporting pediatric patients nationwide. Through school-based chapters and youth teams, students organize fundraising efforts, assemble activity kits for hospitalized children, and participate in national initiatives such as Project Sunshine’s annual Play-A-Thon.

This opportunity is designed for students who are passionate about service, leadership, and making a tangible impact. Chapters are supported by Project Sunshine staff and a Youth Leadership Council of student leaders who provide guidance, resources, and mentorship throughout the year.

    What Do Youth Chapters Do?

Youth Chapter members work together to:

    • Lead fundraising campaigns to support Project Sunshine programs
    • Organize and participate in activity kit-packing events for children in medical settings
    • Participate in national initiatives and days of action
    • Build awareness of Project Sunshine’s mission within their school community
    • Collaborate with peers to plan meetings, events, and service activities

Chapter leaders receive ongoing support, resources, and structured guidance to help their chapters succeed.

    Time Commitment & Structure

    • Chapters meet regularly based on school schedules
    • Chapter leaders participate in monthly check-ins with a Youth Leadership Council representative
    • Chapters complete at least one kit-packing activity per school year
    • Participation is flexible and designed to align with academic commitments

    Eligibility & Requirements

    • Open to high school students only in the United States
    • Parent/guardian consent required for participation
    • No in-person volunteering with pediatric patients is required

    Why Join?

Through the Youth Chapter Initiative, students gain:

    • Leadership and project management experience
    • Exposure to nonprofit work and pediatric care advocacy
    • Opportunities to collaborate with students nationwide
    • The chance to create joy and connection for children facing medical challenges

Whether students are interested in healthcare, social impact, leadership, or community service, this program offers a meaningful way to make a difference.
