    Grant Writer - Volunteer

    American Mental Wellness Association (Remote)

Flexible | Volunteer | Reports to Executive Director

The American Mental Wellness Association (AMWA) is seeking an experienced Volunteer Grant Writer to help us grow our mission of promoting Mental Wellness and early intervention across the nation. This is a flexible, remote opportunity ideal for someone who is passionate about mental health advocacy and wants to make a direct impact through their writing and research skills.

    About Us

AMWA is a national non-profit dedicated to the prevention, early intervention, scientific research, and treatment of mental health problems. We believe that Mental Wellness is for everyone, and we work to eliminate stigma, educate communities, and support holistic approaches to mental well-being. Learn more at americanmentalwellness.org.

    Role Overview

We are looking for a self-motivated volunteer to take the lead on grant research and writing. You’ll work closely with the Executive Director and provide regular updates to the board. This role is mostly independent, but you’ll be part of a small, passionate team focused on making a difference.

    Responsibilities

    • Identify and research potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources
    • Draft compelling, mission-aligned grant proposals and letters of inquiry
    • Maintain a calendar of submission deadlines and reporting requirements
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director to gather necessary organizational data and impact metrics
    • Track submissions, awards, and funding cycles for internal reporting
    • Create templates and potentially assist in training future grant writing volunteers

    What We’re Looking For

    • Prior experience in grant writing for nonprofits a plus
    • Strong research, writing, and organizational skills
    • Familiarity with mental health topics a plus
    • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and Microsoft 365
    • Ability to work independently and communicate professionally with leadership

    Time Commitment

Flexible hours, estimated at 3-5 hours per week (depending on availability and active grant opportunities). This role is fully remote and can be adjusted around your schedule.

    Why Volunteer with AMWA?

    • Make a meaningful contribution to a national movement for Mental Wellness
    • Help secure critical funding that supports education, awareness, and advocacy programs
    • Work with a dedicated and mission-driven leadership team
    • Gain experience or build upon your portfolio in nonprofit development and strategy
