Position Overview
Humane Action Pennsylvania’s mission is to educate the public on how to prevent and relieve animal suffering by taking meaningful action. In addition to education, we engage in policy work to create systemic change for animals and the environment.
Our Action Team is a network of advocates across the country who mobilize quickly by contacting legislators when urgent issues arise. These grassroots efforts amplify our voice and ensure elected officials hear directly from their constituents.
The Grassroots Policy Manager plays a vital role in keeping this team active and effective. Working closely with HAP staff, this volunteer will manage Action Team communications, distribute action alerts, and help recruit and grow the team so that HAP can continue driving change at the local, state, and national levels.
Purpose of the Position
- Communicate with Action Team members to mobilize advocacy on behalf of animals and the environment.
- Recruit and grow the Action Team to expand HAP’s grassroots impact.
- Manage and maintain Action Team contacts within HAP’s CRM system.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in developing effective messaging and communication strategies.
- Draft and implement clear, instructional, and informative emails.
- Communicate with Action Team members, as delegated by supervisors.
- Maintain contact lists, track projects, and support monitoring efforts.
- Conduct moderate research to support campaigns and alerts.
- Lead recruitment activities, including outreach, content creation, and brainstorming new ideas.
- Present yourself in a friendly, professional, and non-partisan manner.
- Respond to HAP leadership emails and calls within 48 hours.
- Be prepared and punctual for meetings and events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Uphold and promote HAP’s mission and core values, adhering to organizational policies.
Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong ability to conduct independent research.
- Proficiency with computers and digital tools.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently while following instructions and meeting deadlines.
- Friendly, professional, and non-partisan demeanor when representing HAP.
- Working knowledge of Google Drive and MonkeyPod, or willingness to learn quickly.
- Familiarity with graphic design, video editing, email platforms, and CRM systems is a plus.
Training Requirements
- Orientation on HAP’s core values, mission, and organizational policies.
- Training on current campaign goals, strategies, and status updates.
- Instruction on using HAP’s CRM system for managing Action Team contacts and communications.
Time Commitment - Approximately 2 - 4 hours a week
