    Description

    Volunteer - Children's Program

Doorways is an Arlington-based non-profit agency helping individuals and families create pathways out of domestic violence, sexual assault, and homelessness leading to safe, stable and empowered lives. We provide trauma-informed, holistic services to survivors in the community including emergency housing, hospital accompaniment, court advocacy, counseling, case management, a 24/7 hotline, prevention workshops, and more.

We are seeking individuals to act as Children's Program Volunteers for 3 hours per month (Two, 90-minute shifts typically on Mondays and Wednesdays) in our emergency shelter for domestic violence survivors. Volunteers play games, help with homework, and otherwise engage in healthy and fun activities that help the kids take their mind off their trauma. It also allows caregivers to relax, do chores, or attend support meetings on-site at the shelter. Bilingual volunteers (English/Spanish) are especially welcome to apply!

Volunteers must complete 40 hours of training in person and submit background checks. A one year commitment of active volunteering required. Training classes are held on weeknights and run three times per year: Fall (Sep-Nov), Winter (Jan-March) and Spring (April-June).
