    Description

    Media Storyteller And PR Ambassador

We are seeking a Media Outreach and PR Strategist to help Student LunchBox (SLB) move from a local secret to a headline story. Our goal is to create a professional Media Outreach Toolkit and execute an initial "press sprint" to secure features in local newspapers, radio stations, and online magazines.

We need a volunteer with a degree in Journalism or English who can translate our mission of ending college hunger into compelling, pitch-ready narratives that grab an editor’s attention.

We want to collaborate with a professional storyteller to amplify our voice across Southern California. This project is divided into two clear phases.

    1. Draft a high-impact "Media Kit" (Press Release template, Fact Sheet, Founder Bio, Etc).
    2. Develop 3 distinct story angles (e.g., the rising cost of student living, volunteer impact, or student success stories) tailored for different media formats (Radio vs. Print).
    3. Target List: Identify and vet a list of 10–15 high-value media contacts (Editors, Producers, Journalists) in the LA/Higher Ed/Non-profit space.
    4. Active Pitching: Draft and send personalized pitches to these contacts.

    Required Experience/ Skills:

    • Must hold a degree in Journalism, English, or Communications.
    • We need someone who views a "no" from a journalist as a challenge to find a better angle.
    • Experience using tools (or even just clever LinkedIn/Twitter searches) to find the right gatekeepers at media outlets.

By the end of this project, Student LunchBox will have a professional presence in the media landscape, ensuring that students who need us can find us and donors who want to help can see the impact of their support.

    ______________________________________________________________________________________

Currently, thousands of bright, ambitious college students in Los Angeles are forced to skip meals to afford tuition or rent. We have a proven model to solve this, but we face a "visibility gap": donors and community supporters who could fund us don't know we exist.

This project is the bridge. By lending us your professional PR and storytelling expertise, you are directly amplifying our ability to:

    • Destigmatize Student Hunger: Your writing will help shift the narrative from "the starving student" trope to a serious conversation about basic needs and equity in education.
    • Unlock Critical Resources: Every media feature, whether it’s a 30-second radio spot or a local digital news article, acts as a trust signal for major donors and corporate partners. One well-placed story can lead to funding that provides thousands of new meals and serves additional students.

To prepare for this collaboration, we have:

Leadership Readiness: Our Program Director is fully committed to this PR push. We are prepared to serve as the "voice" for interviews and will clear the calendar to prioritize media opportunities the volunteer secures.

Data/Story Ready: We have gathered internal impact data, student testimonials (with privacy protections in place), and high-resolution photos of our operations. You won't have to hunt for information.

Clear Branding Guidelines: We have established our core mission and brand voice, giving you a solid foundation to build upon without the guesswork.

Media Infrastructure: We will create a dedicated press email and a basic tracking system to manage the influx of inquiries and follow-ups you generate.

    Marketing Tools included:

    Personalized Email

    Canva Pro

    Social Media account access

    and more:

Your time and talent will have a tangible ripple effect. For every successful media placement you secure, you aren't just getting clicks; you are helping us secure the surplus food and financial support needed to feed hundreds of additional students each month. You provide the voice; we provide the meals. Together, we can ensure that the next generation of leaders, doctors, and artists in our community can focus on their academic careers.

By securing these initial media wins, you are helping us build the social proof needed to attract larger corporate sponsors and expanded donor support, directly resulting in more meals for food-insecure students.

We aren't just looking for avolunteer, we are looking for a strategic partner to help us tell a story that needs to be heard. We are organized, responsive, and excited to work with someone who cares about our work and who wants to be part of it.
