San Jose Museum of Art is looking for volunteers to apply for its Let’s Look at Art program!
Docents are provided with special training in art education and classroom engagement using discussion-based techniques to share with children throughout Santa Clara County. No previous art knowledge is required. The docent will then provide free presentations to students in their classrooms in schools throughout Santa Clara County, depending on the Docent's preferred region. The Museum asks for a commitment of 15-20 classroom hours per year and your presence at quarterly meetings at the San José Museum of Art featuring local artists or guest speakers. As a bonus, you will have the opportunity to participate in field trips to other bay area museums and build a community of caring and arts-loving friends and colleagues.
This program reaches over 30,000 students each year, and for many it is their first exposure to the San José Msuem of Art and it's mission to connect the community with art in meaningful ways.
Training for new docents begins in January and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for seven weeks. We utilize a part in-person, part online participation model.
