    Description

    About CALEC & This Project

CALEC is a small, mission-driven, volunteer-run nonprofit organization advancing multilingualism, literacy, and culturally responsive education. Our work is carried out through volunteers, interns, and occasional freelance collaborators, under the guidance of our Board and President.

CALEC is currently preparing a scholarly edited volume titled Language Unbound: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence in Bilingual Education. The project brings together contributions in English and French from researchers and practitioners exploring the role of artificial intelligence in bilingual education.

    Project status:

Authors have already submitted chapter proposals and drafts, and editorial feedback and revision requests have been shared. The project is now entering the confirmation, compilation, and production phase, focused on finalizing chapters and assembling the book for publication.

    Position Overview

CALEC is seeking detail-oriented editorial volunteers to support the final editorial and production stages of this scholarly book project. Volunteers will work closely with the editors to help confirm chapters, manage revisions, ensure consistency across contributions, and support the transition from revised manuscripts to a complete, publication-ready volume.

This role is ideal for individuals interested in academic publishing, multilingual editing, scholarly communication, or editorial project coordination, and offers meaningful exposure to the full lifecycle of an edited academic book.

    Key Responsibilities

Depending on skills and availability, volunteers may assist with:

    • Reviewing revised chapter drafts following editorial feedback
    • Supporting chapter confirmation and editorial decision tracking
    • Formatting and typesetting chapters using standard academic conventions
    • Ensuring consistency of style, structure, citations, and formatting across chapters
    • Assisting with bilingual coordination (English–French), including the use of translation tools when appropriate
    • Communicating with authors and editors regarding edits, formatting questions, and timelines
    • Supporting final proofreading, layout checks, and preparation for publication

    Qualifications

    • Strong written communication skills in English
    • Interest or experience in academic editing, publishing, or research support
    • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple documents and versions

    Preferred (but not required):

    • Proficiency in French
    • Experience with scholarly publishing or edited volumes
    • Familiarity with formatting tools (Word styles, Google Docs, LaTeX, InDesign, etc.)
    • Experience working with multilingual content

    Time Commitment & Format

    • Flexible, part-time, project-based involvement
    • Fully remote participation
    • Scope of work adapted to volunteer experience and availability
