Garden & Nutrition Enrichment Program Internship

Garden and Nutrition Enrichment Program Internship

    Internship Description

Olivewood’s Garden and Nutrition Enrichment Program Internship offers the chance to gain first-hand teaching experience in our school-based, after-school youth programs. Interns work closely with our Garden and Nutrition Education Specialists to deliver engaging hydroponic gardening and cooking lessons using hydroponic growing units and mobile cooking carts. As an organization rooted in community, this role requires active participation in anti-racist work and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Internships are unpaid; however, class credit is available.

    Commitment

This internship requires approximately 10 to 12 hours per week for a total of 120 hours. Our after-school programs take place at elementary schools on weekdays: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, and Thursdays from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

    Internship Goals

    • Gain hands-on teaching experience with an innovative garden and nutrition enrichment program
    • Learn experiential education techniques in a non-traditional setting
    • Collaborate with the Olivewood team on projects that support our youth programs
    • Build understanding of local community health concerns

    Duties

    • Co-facilitate garden and cooking lessons for youth while following lesson objectives, incorporating garden features, monitoring student behavior, and working within time constraints
    • Provide feedback on lesson successes and suggestions for improvement

    Qualifications

We are seeking individuals who are excited to work with youth, pay attention to detail, and appreciate gardening and cooking. The ideal candidate:

    • Has experience working with children
    • Is a confident public speaker with strong interpersonal skills
    • Has an interest in cooking or nature
    • Is a current university student or recent graduate
    • Is eager to build cross-cultural connections, learn, and have fun

Applicants studying education, child and family development, environmental science, sustainability, biology, or ecology are preferred. Spanish language proficiency is ideal but not required.
