    Description

    Treasurer, Celiac Edmonton

The Treasurer is an officer of the board of a registered non-profit society. Celiac Edmonton is a Chapter of Celiac Canada, dedicated to providing service and support to persons with celiac disease, dermatitis herpetiformis and gluten intolerance, through awareness, education, events and research support. The Chapter hosts a number of events annually, with a focus on supporting people newly diagnosed with celiac disease, raising awareness of celiac disease and the challenges of a gluten-free lifestyle, family, community and all-ages events, as well as fundraising.

All board positions are two-year terms. Board members can run for multiple terms, with no term limits. Board members must be a member of the Canadian Celiac Association Edmonton Chapter (Celiac Edmonton), however, do not need to be celiac or suffer from any other gluten-related disorder.

The Treasurer is responsible for the financial matters of the organization, and works with the board as a whole to manage Celiac Edmonton affairs. The Treasurer attends monthly board meetings and other committee meetings as treasurer availability allows. The Treasurer also works closely with Celiac Edmonton staff to manage financial transactions related to the daily operations of the organisation. The Treasurer role is a significant volunteer leadership role for the Chapter, requiring up to 15-30 hours per month, depending on time of year, and the type of projects and initiatives underway and the number of committees the Treasurer chooses to participate on.

    The Treasurer is responsible for:

    • Managing all financial matters of the Society:
      • Ensuring all monies paid to the Society are deposited in the financial institution chosen by the Board.
      • Ensuring the signing authority of the Society is kept current at the financial institution chosen by the Board.
      • Ensuring a detailed account of revenues and expenditures is presented to the Board, as requested.
      • Preparing financial statements of the Society for presentation at the AGM.
      • Preparing and ensuring that the annual report to the Canada Revenue Agency is filed prior to March 31 each year.
      • Preparing and submitting the Annual Return for the Alberta Societies Branch each October.
      • Preparing and submitting financial statements and reports, related to the casino funding, to Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis, as required.
      • Managing payroll for staff and ensuring staff are paid in a timely manner.
      • Ensuring invoices are paid in a timely manner.
      • Advising the Board on financial matters related to the management and function of the organization.
      • Works closely with board members and financial partners (Zeffy, Canada Helps, accountants), to manage the financial matters of the organization.
    • Carrying out other duties as assigned by the Board.
      • Participate on, or chair, at least one committee of the Board.
      • Participate on and/or chair, additional committees of the board as time and personal interest allow.
      • Volunteer for and/or attend events hosted by Celiac Edmonton (i.e. May Awareness, Pancake Breakfast, Ride Walk Run, Community Christmas Party, others).
