    Description

Assemble Board Of Directors January 2026 -December 2028 Term

January 2026 -December 2028 Term - Board of Directors Position Description

Assemble, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering learning and creativity, is seeking committed and enthusiastic individuals to join its Board of Directors. As ambassadors of Assemble, all board members (“Directors”) provide leadership in the oversight and execution of Assemble’s strategic plan, and they actively support Assemble’s mission and vision. Directors must share Assemble’s vision for STEAM education, the Maker movement, and community connections. Candidates should be prepared to share their skills, attend meetings, and collaborate with other Board Members and staff. Directors will be required to participate in at least one committee (current committees: DEIAJ, Events, Development, Finance, Information Management, and Governance).

    Mission

At Assemble, we use learning as a tool to create a more equitable future for youth and learners in the Pittsburgh region and beyond. We:

    • Build confidence through making
    • Connect learners, makers, technologists, and artists
    • Nurture agency in learners

    Vision

Assemble envisions a world where learning and creating are transformative experiences and where all people are equipped with the tools to make a difference, together.

Assemble’s Directors serve 3-year terms and are required to attend all of the virtual/in-person Board meetings and the in-person Board Retreat, in addition to committee meetings. The Board meets four times each year, with a fifth meeting held as needed (for example, to conduct special votes or hold additional discussion sessions). Directors are expected to consider Assemble a philanthropic priority and to make and/or solicit annual gifts that reflect this priority. Board members are expected to attend Assemble’s fundraising, marketing, and development activities (happy hours, MakerDate, 6x6, etc) as brand ambassadors and stewards of the mission. Board members are expected to grow into leadership roles such as committee chairs and officers.

Special consideration will be given to candidates who possess any of the following qualifications:

    • Dedication toward Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion, and Justice practices
    • Identifying as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, or as an intersectional person of oppressed identities
    • Interest in leading fundraising and friend-raising events to build Assemble’s donor base
    • Interest and ability to build Assemble’s family of supporters, fans, and participants
    • Experience or skills in one or more of the following:
      • Legal and Human Resources Expertise for Nonprofit Organizations
      • Nonprofit Accounting and Finance Expertise
      • Fundraising, Development, and Networking for Prospective Donor Cultivation
      • Prior non-profit board and strategic planning experience preferred
    • Connections to the Garfield/Friendship/Bloomfield community as a resident or organization
    • Connections to the Technology, Art, and Creative Industries
