    Description

Volunteer Web Developer – Supporting the Swahili-Speaking Community (NYTC)

Volunteer Web Developer / Digital Media & Storytelling Collaborator

The New York Tanzanian Community (NYTC) is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Swahili-speaking communities, including immigrant families and international students from Tanzania and the broader African community across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. Our work focuses on strengthening connection, opportunity, and collective well-being as community members navigate education, work, and civic life across multiple states.

We are seeking a creative volunteer collaborator to help us refresh and strengthen our digital presence so it better reflects who we are, what we do, and the story of the Tanzanian community we serve. Our website and social media platforms are important tools for connection, information sharing, and community empowerment, but they need care, creativity, and intention to truly serve that purpose.

    This volunteer may help us:

    • Revamp and redesign our website to be clearer, more welcoming, and mobile-friendly
    • Reorganize content to better reflect our mission, values, and community impact
    • Support digital storytelling that highlights Tanzanian and Swahili-speaking community experiences
    • Improve online visibility through basic SEO
    • Support social media management and content creation
    • Assist with visual branding, including graphics, logo refinements, and simple marketing materials

By strengthening our digital platforms, this role directly supports community empowerment, economic opportunity, and collective voice by making information more accessible, improving engagement, and helping our community stay connected across state lines.

NYTC leadership will collaborate closely with the volunteer to define priorities, provide content support, and ensure the scope remains manageable and meaningful. Volunteers play a vital role in helping us grow our impact, and we welcome those who want to contribute their skills in support of a strong, connected, and thriving community.
