    Volunteer Social Planner

    City Voices: Social Planner

    Overview

    The City Voices Social Planner is responsible for designing, organizing, and executing free and engaging social events and activities for people with mental health challenges in NYC. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the unique needs of this community and a passion for creating safe, fun, and inclusive spaces that promote connection and well-being.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Event Planning: Develop a calendar of diverse events and activities, including art workshops, community outings, social gatherings, and recreational groups.
    • Logistics Management: Handle all event logistics, from securing venues and materials to managing RSVPs and day-of coordination.
    • Community Building: Actively engage with members to understand their interests and needs, ensuring events are tailored and relevant.
    • Partnership Coordination: Forge relationships with local businesses, cultural institutions, and community organizations to expand event offerings and resources.
    • Promotion: Create compelling promotional materials and use various channels (e.g., social media, email, flyers) to effectively advertise events to members.

    Qualifications

    • Experience: Proven experience in event planning, community organizing, or a related field. Experience working with people with mental health challenges is highly preferred.
    • Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently.
    • Empathy and Understanding: A genuine, non-judgmental, and compassionate attitude. A deep understanding of the challenges and strengths of individuals living with mental illness.
    • NYC Knowledge: Familiarity with free or low-cost resources, venues, and activities in New York City.

    Other Details

    • Compensation: This is a part-time, project-based, or full-time position with a salary commensurate with experience.
    • Schedule: Flexible hours, with some evening and weekend work required for events.
    • Reporting: The Social Planner will report to the Executive Director.
    • Core Beliefs: The Social Planner must be committed to the "Community over Incarceration" philosophy, believing that supportive community environments are essential for recovery and that people with mental illness deserve to live full, integrated lives.
