A Free Bird is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children affected by cancer explore their artistic passions. Artistic expression plays a meaningful role in emotional healing, confidence building, and overall well-being. Through music, art, writing, dance, and other creative mediums, we empower young individuals to discover their voice, strengthen resilience, and find joy in creativity.

We are seeking compassionate, patient, and dedicated volunteers for the role of Guitar Tutor. In this position, you will provide one-on-one virtual guitar lessons to children ages 4–18. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about music education and making a direct impact on a child’s artistic journey.

    • Maintain timely communication with the Programs Department regarding sessions.
    • (Optional if approved by AFB): Submit lesson snapshots or progress captures as required by program guidelines.

    Qualifications

    • 1–2+ years of formal guitar training (lessons, school, performance experience, or equivalent).
    • Experience working with children is preferred, but not required.
    • Warm, creative, and patient teaching style.
    • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to adapt to individual student needs.
    • Reliable schedule and commitment to consistent weekly sessions.

    • A minimum of 3 months is required, with the option to extend.
    • Internship/academic credit is available when approved by a school program.
