    About Us

The Well of Mercy is a nonprofit, transitional living program for women and their children. We provide a safe, stable, and supportive environment for up to five years where resident moms can work toward education, employment, and long-term goals while raising their families.

    Position Overview

We are seeking consistent, caring Volunteer Tutors to support both resident moms and their school-aged children. Many mothers at The Well are working hard to continue their education, complete certification programs, or strengthen foundational academic skills - while their children are attending school and navigating their own learning needs.

    Tutors may work with:

    • Resident moms (adult learners)
    • Children (elementary through junior high)
    • Or both, depending on your interest and comfort

This is an unpaid volunteer role that directly strengthens family stability and empowers two generations at once.

    What You’ll Do

    • Support resident moms with reading, writing, math, ESL, GED preparation, or college-level work
    • Help children with homework, school projects, study skills, reading, and math
    • Encourage focus, confidence, and a love of learning
    • Offer patient, meaningful support
    • Create a positive and safe learning environment
    • Communicate with staff to ensure consistent support

    What We’re Looking For

    • Individuals who enjoy working with adults, children, or both
    • Patience, reliability, and consistency
    • Clear communication and ability to explain concepts
    • Comfort with elementary, junior high, or adult-level academics (your choice)
    • Respect for boundaries and staff guidance
    • Supportive, positive energy

No formal tutoring background required — just willingness to help.

    Time Commitment

    • Weekdays (current need Tues, Wed, Thur) after school and evenings
    • Flexible scheduling, based on your availability
    • Sessions typically 1–2 hours

    Why Volunteer With Us?

    • Empower two generations of learners
    • Help resident moms achieve education and career goals
    • Support children in building academic confidence and success
    • Form meaningful, lasting connections
    • Join a mission-driven, compassionate community
    • See your impact directly in the daily lives of families
