    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability. Through mentorship, literacy development, social-emotional learning (SEL), creative expression, and educational media, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people are seen, respected, and valued.

MAP’s children’s media—including YouTube content—is designed to be kid-safe, educational, emotionally supportive, and developmentally appropriate.

    Purpose of the Role

The Children’s Educational Media & YouTube Content Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and publishing of MAP’s child-focused video content. This role ensures that all media is educational, trauma-informed, age-appropriate, and compliant with child-safety standards and platform policies.

The Content Manager bridges storytelling, education, production, and compliance—making sure content is not only engaging, but responsible and trustworthy.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage MAP’s children’s YouTube and educational media content pipeline
    • Plan content calendars aligned with literacy, SEL, and program goals
    • Coordinate with writers, narrators, video leads, editors, and educators
    • Review videos for age-appropriateness, tone, pacing, and educational value
    • Ensure compliance with kid-safe standards (COPPA-aware practices, platform rules)
    • Oversee titles, descriptions, thumbnails, and metadata (kid-appropriate only)
    • Support consistent voice and visual identity across content
    • Track publishing schedules, revisions, and approvals
    • Monitor performance trends for learning and engagement (not monetization-driven)
    • Maintain documentation, workflows, and version control
    • Check and respond to emails daily, with responses within 48 hours

    Qualifications

    • Experience managing educational, children’s, or nonprofit media content
    • Strong understanding of kid-safe programming and age-appropriate media
    • Familiarity with YouTube Studio or similar publishing tools
    • Ability to collaborate across creative, education, and production teams
    • Strong organizational, editorial, and communication skills
    • Commitment to ethical, inclusive, and mission-driven media practices

    Bonus (Not Required)

    • Experience with children’s YouTube channels or educational video platforms
    • Background in education, SEL, child development, or youth media
    • Familiarity with COPPA considerations and nonprofit media guidelines
    • Experience coordinating volunteers or creative teams
    • Bilingual or multilingual abilities (Spanish or Haitian Creole preferred)

    Commitment

    • 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Remote collaboration with optional NYC-based participation

    What You’ll Gain

    • Leadership experience managing kid-safe educational media
    • Portfolio-relevant digital content and channel management work
    • Collaboration with educators, storytellers, and creative professionals
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • The opportunity to help children learn, feel seen, and feel safe through media
