    About Us

A Free Bird is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children affected by cancer through artistic expression. From music and acting to visual arts and creative writing, we believe that creativity supports emotional healing, confidence, and self-discovery. Our team works to bring hope, inspiration, and life-changing opportunities to young artists—and we’re looking for passionate volunteers to help amplify our mission.

    About the Role

Are you a creative digital storyteller who thrives in fast-moving online spaces? We’re seeking a Social Media Specialist Volunteer to join our Marketing & Communications team. In this role, you’ll help shape A Free Bird’s digital presence, elevate our brand voice, and spotlight the inspiring journeys of the children and families we serve. This is a hands-on opportunity to build real-world experience in social media strategy, content creation, campaign development, and analytics—all while contributing to meaningful, mission-driven work.

    What You’ll Do

Develop Digital Strategy: Collaborate with the Marketing team to build platform-specific social strategies aligned with organizational goals.

Create Engaging Content: Produce compelling posts, reels, stories, graphics, short-form videos, and copy across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, and Threads.

Manage Community Engagement: Monitor comments, messages, and tags; respond professionally and foster a positive online community.

Support Campaigns: Assist in planning and executing digital campaigns—including awareness initiatives, fundraising activations, contests, and artist features.

Report & Analyze: Use tools like Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Later, or native platform analytics to track performance and recommend optimizations.

Stay Trend-Forward: Keep current with platform trends, algorithm changes, and best practices; consistently contribute fresh, creative ideas.

Assist with Paid Ads: Support creation of copy and content for paid social ads; track key performance metrics alongside the digital team.

Amplify Brand Advocacy: Identify and support potential brand ambassadors; elevate high-quality user-generated content to strengthen community engagement.

    What We’re Looking For

Currently pursuing or holding a degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field.

Experience creating or managing content for social platforms (personal projects, internships, professional work, or portfolio examples).

Strong understanding of social trends, digital culture, and platform-specific content styles.

Excellent writing, editing, and visual communication skills.

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks independently.

Comfortable working remotely with reliable computer and internet access.

Experience using Canva, Adobe Express, Hootsuite, Later, or similar tools is a plus.

Bonus: Experience with nonprofit marketing, paid media, or analytics reporting.

    Internship Details

    Remote, part-time volunteer role (5–10 hours/week).

    Minimum 3-month commitment required.

Two weekly check-ins via phone or video call.

Unpaid; students seeking academic credit must confirm eligibility with their institution.
