Join Our Board – Empower Survivors & Strengthen Communities

    About Us

Irockmyscars, Inc. is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering survivors of trauma by transforming scars — both visible and invisible — into symbols of strength, creativity, and community. Through programs in healing & wellness, creative expression, workforce development, and community support, we provide safe spaces and tangible resources that help individuals not only survive but thrive.

As a grassroots movement, we are building capacity from the ground up. That means every voice matters, and every hand helps move our mission forward.

    The Role

As a grassroots organization, we are seeking passionate, hands-on leaders to join our Board of Directors. Our Board is not only a governing body but also an active part of building capacity, shaping programs, and ensuring our growth is sustainable. Board Members play a vital role in strengthening Irockmyscars’ foundation and helping us expand our impact across Virginia.

In this role, you will help guide the organization’s vision, provide strategic insight, and open doors to opportunities that amplify our reach.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic guidance and oversight to support the mission and vision of Irockmyscars.
    • Actively participate in quarterly board meetings and committee work.
    • Serve as an ambassador for the organization, sharing our mission with your networks and community connections.
    • Support fundraising efforts through personal giving, sponsorships, or helping to secure resources.
    • Offer expertise, mentorship, and leadership in your area of knowledge.
    • Help build organizational capacity, ensuring programs and systems remain sustainable as we grow.

    Who We’re Looking For

We welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds who are:

    • Passionate about trauma recovery, community building, and grassroots change.
    • Collaborative and willing to share skills, knowledge, and energy.
    • Committed to equity, inclusion, and dignity-centered service.
    • Interested in helping us grow through connections, partnerships, and visibility.
    • Willing to contribute time, talent, and treasure toward advancing our mission.

    Why Join Us?

As a Board Member of our growing organization, your leadership will directly shape the future of Irockmyscars. This is a unique opportunity to be part of building something from the ground up — helping to create sustainable systems, strengthen programs, and expand resources for survivors.

You’ll join a supportive, passionate group of leaders committed to reimagining what’s possible for our communities, and your voice will have a meaningful impact on both the direction of our work and the lives we serve.

** Please note we have two branches in Virginia Beach, VA and Nottoway County, VA. Board members support the entire organization.
