A background screening is required for all volunteers. We value the volunteers, students, parents, schools, and communities we serve. All confirmed volunteers during the selection process are required to complete a child sexual abuse awareness training, reference checks (for specific volunteer roles), and a background check for onsite, in-person events and programs volunteer opportunities.
Submitting a volunteer application or inquiry does not guarantee placement as a volunteer. Candidates will be accepted based on the event or program needs matched with the candidates’ qualifications to meet those requirements, as determined during the selection process. Incomplete volunteer applications will not be considered for review. If a suitable volunteer opportunity is available, you will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator.
A volunteer interview/orientation, background check, and reference check (references for specific volunteer roles) will be required before any candidate can begin an assignment. All applications will be kept on file for one year.
All volunteers, staff members, and partners must complete a comprehensive background check.
Through our partnership with NCSI, the National Center for Safety Initiatives will perform each comprehensive background check (a nationwide county criminal search, federal, and two sex offenders registry searches) for $35. We ask all volunteers, staff members, and partners to contribute a $20 donation toward their background check at https://nationalstemsociety.org/how-do-i-donate/ on the website, enter a custom amount, and click donate. The National STEM Society will cover the remaining cost of $15.
