    Description

    This key volunteer role, also known as Tech Tutors, supports Maybelle members in building

    digital confidence and independence by providing one-on-one, judgment-free assistance with

    smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Offer patient, step-by-step guidance to individuals learning how to use their devices and support them to address specific questions or concerns.
    • Assist with tasks such as email, video calls, online forms, app navigation, setting up online accounts, and device settings.
    • Support participants using their personal cell phones or personal devices, or Maybelle provided laptop and internet access.
    • Create a welcoming, respectful, and empowering environment for all skill levels.
    • Communicate any recurring tech questions or needs to staff for potential future group training sessions.

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • Have a friendly and approachable manner.
    • Be sensitive to and be respectful of diverse populations.
    • Basic knowledge of smartphones (apple/ android) , tablets, and computers.
    • Strong communication and active listening skills.
    • Patience and empathy when working with individuals with varying comfort levels with
    • technology and different learning styles.
    • Reliability and commitment to weekly or bi-weekly shifts.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
    • Ability to view screens and use small devices such as phones, tablets, keyboards, and mice.
    • Ability to communicate verbally and visually with members.

    ORIENTATION AND TRAINING

    • Volunteers will receive an orientation to the organization and guidance on how to best
    • support members within our community.
    • Orientation and training materials are available only in English at this time.
    • Ongoing support and supervision will be provided by the Volunteer Coordinator and
    • Neighborhood Programs staff working in the Community Room.
    • Your orientation and training will take place prior to your first volunteer shift.

    TIME COMMITMENT

    • Preferred: Minimum of one 2-hour shift per week.
    • Alternative: 2-hour shift every other week may be available.
    • Shifts are flexible and scheduled during open Community Room hours:
      • Mondays: 1:00–3:00 PM
      • Tuesdays: 10:30 AM–2:30 PM
      • Thursdays: 10:30 AM–2:30 PM
      • Fridays: 10:30 AM–2:30 PM

    A regular, consistent schedule is strongly preferred to ensure reliability and accessibility for members. A minimum commitment of six months is requested, with regular check-ins for support. If this role is not the right fit, we are happy to help you explore alternative volunteer opportunities within the organization.

    ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT

    The Community Room at Maybelle is a welcoming, inclusive space designed for connection and learning. Volunteers can work one-on-one with members in a small conference room or at a table in the shared space, though depending on events or activities, the room may be busy, loud, or stimulating.
