    Description

    Vice President, Celiac Edmonton

The Vice President (VP) is an officer of the board of a registered non-profit society. Celiac Edmonton is a Chapter of Celiac Canada, dedicated to providing service and support to persons with celiac disease, dermatitis herpetiformis and gluten intolerance, through awareness, education, events and research support. The Chapter hosts a number of events annually, with a focus on supporting people newly diagnosed with celiac disease, raising awareness of celiac disease and the challenges of a gluten-free lifestyle, family, community and all-ages events, as well as fundraising.

All board positions are two-year terms. Board members can run for multiple terms, with no term limits. Board members must be a member of the Canadian Celiac Association Edmonton Chapter (Celiac Edmonton), however, do not need to be celiac or suffer from any other gluten-related disorder.

Though not a requirement, it is the hope of the Celiac Edmonton Board that the VP will commit to taking the President position once their term as VP is completed.

The VP works with the board as a whole, and more specifically, supports the President, to manage Celiac Edmonton affairs. The VP attends monthly board meetings, and other committee meetings as required. The VP role is an important volunteer leadership role for the Chapter, requiring up to 20 hours per month, depending on time of year, and the type of projects and initiatives underway and the number of committees the VP chooses to participate on.

The Vice President is responsible for:

    • Presiding at meetings if the President is absent.
      • Collaborate with the Secretary to develop the meeting agenda and materials.
      • Chair meetings of the Society and of the board.
      • If the Vice-President is absent, the Directors elect a Chairperson for the meeting.
    • Carrying out other duties as assigned by the Board.
      • Support the President, as needed, in all aspects of the President’s role.
      • Act as the President if the President is away for an extended period of time (i.e. vacation).
      • Learn how Celiac Edmonton and the board function, from the President, other Officers of the board, and from staff, in preparation for taking on the President role.
      • Participate on, or chair, at least one committee of the Board.
      • Participate on and/or chair, additional committees of the board as time and personal interest allow.
      • Volunteer for and/or attend events hosted by Celiac Edmonton (i.e. May Awareness, Pancake Breakfast, Ride Walk Run, Community Christmas Party, others).
