    About Mentor A Promise & PromiseHousing

    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. In addition to mentorship and education, MAP advances long-term solutions that address the structural causes of instability.

    PromiseHousing is MAP’s housing and real estate development division, focused on developing and rehabilitating dignified, safe, and community-centered housing for families. The division brings projects from concept through construction and delivery, prioritizing safety, quality, and long-term sustainability.

    Role Overview

    The Construction Project Manager – PromiseHousing is responsible for overseeing the build-out, renovation, or rehabilitation of housing projects once development plans are approved. This role ensures that construction is executed safely, on schedule, and in alignment with approved scopes, budgets, and quality standards.

    The ideal candidate brings hands-on construction or project management experience and is comfortable coordinating contractors, inspectors, and consultants while maintaining strong safety and compliance oversight.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee construction build-outs or rehabilitation projects from mobilization through completion
    • Coordinate contractors and subcontractors, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and quality standards
    • Monitor construction progress, resolve field issues, and track milestones
    • Ensure job-site safety, compliance with OSHA and local safety requirements, and proper documentation
    • Coordinate inspections, approvals, and sign-offs with city agencies and third-party inspectors
    • Manage punch lists, close-out documentation, and final project turnover
    • Communicate regularly with PromiseHousing leadership on progress, risks, and timelines
    • Ensure construction activities align with PromiseHousing goals and MAP’s mission-driven standards

    Qualifications

    • Experience in construction management, general contracting, or project management
    • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, safety, and inspection processes
    • Ability to coordinate multiple contractors and consultants effectively
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Clear communication and field leadership presence
    • Commitment to safe, high-quality, community-centered housing development

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience with residential rehab or affordable housing projects
    • Familiarity with NYC building codes, inspections, and permitting processes
    • OSHA certification or safety management experience
    • Experience working with nonprofit or mission-driven development teams

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role within the PromiseHousing division
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • On-site presence required during active construction phases
