    Description

    This role is for a passionate visionary with a gift for storytelling. As Communications Director, you will be the voice of TPCA, crafting powerful narratives that challenge false perceptions and spark a paradigm shift in how people view the prison system. You will lead a creative team, using your skills to shine a light on the truth and rally a community of advocates to a cause that needs to be heard.

    Key Responsibilities

    Shaping Our Story Through Strategy

    Develop and implement a multi-faceted communications plan, creating cost-effective marketing and outreach strategies that reach a wide range of constituents.

    Manage our editorial calendars to ensure our messaging is timely, coordinated, and impactful.

    Telling Our Story Through Content

    Lead the creation and production of compelling content for various channels, including press releases, publications, newsletters, and social media.

    Utilize graphic design tools like Canva to produce professional-quality visuals, videos, and infographics that capture attention and drive our message home.

    Amplifying Our Voice Across Digital Platforms

    Oversee and maintain the organization's website and all social media channels (including Facebook, X/Twitter, and Instagram).

    Ensure our website is an effective tool for advocacy and education.

    Manage email marketing campaigns and analyze engagement data to continually improve our reach and impact.

    Connecting with the Public

    Serve as a key spokesperson for TPCA, building and nurturing relationships with the media.

    Pitch stories to reporters and craft public-facing content like op-eds or letters to the editor.

    Manage media inquiries and prepare staff and volunteers for public appearances.

    Building a Unified Movement

    Collaborate closely with the graphics design team and other departments to ensure brand consistency across all campaigns.

    Articulate what TPCA stands for, tailoring our message to resonate with specific audiences and drive action.

    Empowering Our Advocates

    Train other volunteers, such as Social Media Ambassadors, on best practices for content creation, digital safety, and platform-specific communication.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • A natural storyteller with the ability to craft compelling narratives and use words that inspire action and change perceptions.
    • Has the skill to develop and execute a comprehensive, creative, and effective communications plan.
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to translate complex issues into accessible, human-centered content.
    • Experience leading and working with diverse teams to achieve a shared vision, ensuring brand consistency and tailored messaging for different audiences.
    • A technical alchemist with proficiency in a range of digital tools for content creation (like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite), website management (e.g., Wix), and data analytics (e.g., Google Analytics).
    • Several years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, with a preference for a background in a nonprofit or advocacy setting.
