    Instructions:

Thank you so much for your interest in the Veteran Newsletter & Digital Content Volunteer role with U.S.VETS Washington D.C. We’re excited to connect with individuals who are passionate about supporting veterans and skilled in creating impactful digital content. Before we move forward, I’d love to confirm a few key details and ask for some samples of your work to get a better sense of your fit for the opportunity.

    About the Role:

This is a remote-friendly volunteer position supporting our monthly digital newsletter for veterans, staff, and community partners across the DMV area. We’re looking for someone who can help us curate content, write short features or spotlights, and design a visually appealing newsletter each month. Typical topics include:

      • Upcoming veteran events and activities
      • VA updates and benefit navigation tips
      • Wellness and resource highlights
      • Veteran success stories and community partner spotlights

This opportunity is ongoing, but the time commitment is flexible (generally 5 to 7 hours per month), depending on the content load and timeline. We’re happy to work with your availability as long as monthly deadlines can be met.

    A Few Quick Checks:

      • Are you comfortable working independently with a monthly deadline?
      • Do you have experience writing, editing, or designing newsletters or digital content?
      • Do you have access to a laptop and reliable internet?
      • Do you have experience working with Ai?
      • Are you familiar with local DC, MD, VA resources?

    Work Samples:

To help us better understand your strengths, please send over 1–2 samples that showcase your work. This can include:

      • A newsletter you created or contributed to (PDF, link, or screenshots)
      • Short-form articles, blog posts, or digital campaigns
      • Any visual or design work related to digital communication (Canva, Mailchimp, etc.)

If you don’t have formal samples, feel free to put together a mock newsletter section or write a short spotlight piece you think would resonate with our veteran audience. Feel free to reply directly to this email with your answers and samples. I’ll be reviewing responses on a rolling basis and will reach out to schedule brief check-ins with selected candidates. One someone has been chosen for the role, we will be sending over our basic volunteer forms and documents for completion before any formal work begins.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
