    Description

The Long Island Immigration Clinic (LIIC)

LIIC is a Sisters of St. Joseph congregational ministry. It is a pro se clinic whose mission is to assist Long Island immigrants with their asylum cases, with a vision to expand our services to meet the needs of our local community as they arise.

LIIC is a Department of Justice recognized and accredited program, with accredited representatives, a staff attorny and a cadre of volunteer attorneys who provide technical support and assistance to the clinic's staff and volunteers.

There are in-person and virtual roles which may be filled.

    • Volunteer to act as an inerpreter and/or assist with the translation of documents.
    • Offer your computer skills for data entry support.
    • Assist with childcare at clinic sessions.
    • Serve as notetakers for intake and documentation forms and/or applications.
    • Be a researcher of country conditions in migrants' home countries to support their asylum applications.
    • Help clients prepare for court appearances or interviews, and link with existing "accompaniment" programs to accompany and support them at their hearings.

Volunteers are provided training prior to being placed on a case.

Below is a link to the volunteer page on the LIIC website, where you can submit a volunteer inquiry form indicating your interest. You can also read about the various roles which are available to volunteers. A member of LIIC personnel will contact you after they receive your information.
