    CALM is seeking compassionate volunteer board members to help guide our community programs for adults with disabilities and seniors.

    Instructions:

    Minimum requirements

    • 21+ and able to serve a 2-year term
    • Commitment: ~2–4 hrs/quarter + prep (read materials, reply to emails)
    • Mission-aligned: belief in inclusion, disability rights, dignity, and safety
    • Location: San Diego County or able to join virtually
    • Tech-ready: email + basic docs/Zoom

    Compliance & documentation

    • Sign Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality policies
    • Complete a brief Board Orientation (governance 101, policies, risk)
    • Background check (Live Scan) if you’ll access sensitive info/finances or interact with participants
    • Follow bylaws; disclose any relationships/paid roles (avoid “interested person” conflicts)

    Preferred qualifications (any of these help)

    • Finance/Accounting, Legal/Compliance, HR, Healthcare, Education, Program evaluation, Risk/Insurance, Community partnerships
    • Lived experience as a self-advocate or family caregiver
    • Local networks (libraries, parks/rec, faith groups, employers)

    Values & soft skills

    • Compassionate, dependable, ethical
    • Curious, asks good questions, data-informed
    • Respectful boundaries (governance—not daily ops); teamwork and cultural humility
