    ABOUT US

Heart of Gold Shelter is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering women transitioning from domestic violence and incarceration toward safety, stability, and economic independence. Since 2020, we’ve served over 1,039 women — providing clothing, shelter, mentorship, and resources to rebuild lives with dignity.

    Why Your Board Service Matters?

Since 2020, we’ve served over 1,000 women transitioning from domestic violence and incarceration — providing shelter, mentorship and resources to rebuild with dignity. As a board member, you’ll directly help shape policies, outreach, and programs that impact real lives.

    What You Can Expect?

    • Quarterly board meetings (≈ 1 hour) + one committee (approx. 2–3 hrs/month).
    • Flexible hybrid participation (in-person or virtual).
    • No prior nonprofit board experience required — just your passion, skills or lived experience.
    • Volunteer, professional, or lived-experience backgrounds all welcome (business, law, healthcare, education, community outreach, etc.).

    What We’re Looking For?

    • Compassionate advocates for women’s empowerment and safety.
    • Skills or interest in fundraising, outreach, community networking, program design, legal/finance/healthcare management — especially persons with lived or working experience related to the issues our shelter addresses.

    Term and Commitment:

    • Board terms: 2 years (renewable)
    • Approx. 4-6 hours a month
