    Description

    The Campaign Against Hunger (TCAH) was recently certified by the IRS to operate its VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program at our Benefits Access Office (BAO) in Brooklyn, located near the C line. TCAH staff and volunteers will work with our clients to complete their tax returns using TaxSlayer software. The office will be open for this purpose from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Our BAO is located at 2010 Fulton Street.

    Responsibilities:

    • Help New Yorkers file their taxes during tax season (late January 2026 to late April 2026)
    • Use tax preparation software to prepare accurate returns
    • Connect clients to additional financial health resources
    • Maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard client information

    Qualifications:

    • Effective communication and customer service skills
    • Basic computer literacy
    • Willingness to complete free IRS training before tax season
    • Bilingual volunteers are especially needed (Spanish, Korean, Mandarin, and others)

    Training:

    No previous tax experience is needed! You will receive hands-on training and ongoing support to prepare simple tax returns. Volunteers will be required to pass IRS volunteer certification exams to become IRS Certified VITA/TCE Volunteer Preparers.

    Time commitment:

    • Preferably at least 8 hours per week (January–April 2026).
    • Flexible scheduling: centers are open 7 days a week, including evenings and weekends.
    • Extra shifts are welcome if your schedule allows.
