    Description

    Volunteer Coordinator

    The Chronic Pain Project

Volunteer Position | Remote | 5-8 hours per week

    About Us

The Chronic Pain Project creates visibility for artists living with chronic pain through curated exhibitions, workshops, and community programming. We're a Portland-based nonprofit serving approximately 60 artists internationally, and we operate with heart, authenticity, and a commitment to meeting people where they are.

    The Role

We're looking for someone who genuinely cares about people to help us support our growing volunteer community. Right now we have 3-4 amazing volunteers, and we need someone to make sure they feel valued, connected, and clear on how they're making a difference. You'll also help us find and welcome new volunteers as we grow.

This isn't about managing people—it's about creating a volunteer experience where people feel appreciated and know their contributions matter.

    What You'll Do

    Support Current Volunteers

    • Check in regularly with volunteers to see how things are going
    • Make sure people get thanked—genuinely and often
    • Help volunteers understand the impact of their work
    • Connect volunteers with opportunities that match their interests and energy levels
    • Troubleshoot any issues or concerns

    Bring New People In

    • Identify volunteer needs across the organization
    • Post opportunities and recruit volunteers
    • Screen and interview potential volunteers
    • Create a welcoming onboarding process
    • Develop simple onboarding materials (we'll help you figure out what's needed)

    Keep Things Running

    • Track volunteer hours and contributions
    • Coordinate with staff and board on volunteer needs
    • Maintain volunteer records
    • Share regular updates about volunteer impact

You Might Be a Good Fit If You

    • Genuinely enjoy connecting with people and making them feel valued
    • Can communicate warmly and clearly
    • Are organized enough to keep track of multiple people and projects
    • Understand that people have varying energy levels and availability (especially important in our community)
    • Can work independently but aren't afraid to ask questions
    • Have experience coordinating volunteers, events, or community groups (or similar people-focused work)
    • Are comfortable with basic tools like Google Workspace, email, and maybe Slack

    What Makes This Different

You'll be working with a community that includes people with chronic pain and other disabilities. Flexibility, patience, and understanding that not everyone can commit the same amount of time or energy isn't just nice—it's essential. We build our processes around accessibility, not the other way around.

    Time Commitment

Approximately 3-7 hours per week (TBD as the role grows), with flexibility around your schedule. Some weeks might be lighter, some busier depending on what's happening.

    What You'll Get

    • Experience building volunteer programs from the ground up
    • Connection to a supportive, creative community
    • The satisfaction of knowing you're helping artists share their stories
    • Skills in volunteer coordination and nonprofit operations
    • Our deep appreciation
