    Description

Virtual Volunteer Grant Researcher & Writer

    About Not Defined By FND:

Not Defined By FND is a newly founded (April 2024) nonprofit organization dedicated to ending stigma, raising awareness, advocating for research and treatments, and fostering conversations to bring necessary change and hope for all individuals affected by Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Through education, advocacy, and community engagement, we empower those impacted by FND and work to ensure a more informed and supportive society.

    Position Summary:

We are seeking motivated and detail-oriented students interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit grant research and writing. As a newly established organization, we are focusing on securing small grants that do not require extensive financial history. In this role, you will be responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and government agencies. This involves collaborating with our team to understand organizational needs, crafting compelling narratives, and ensuring timely submission of applications. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills in fundraising, research, and persuasive writing while supporting a meaningful cause.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Research potential funding sources that align with the organization’s mission and goals.
    • Write clear, persuasive, and well-structured grant proposals tailored to specific funders.
    • Assist in preparing required documentation, including budgets, reports, and supporting materials.
    • Track grant application deadlines and ensure timely submissions.
    • Maintain a database of submitted and pending grants, tracking outcomes and feedback.
    • Collaborate with staff to gather relevant information about programs, outcomes, and impact for proposals.
    • Review and edit proposals to ensure accuracy and alignment with funder guidelines.

    Expectations

    Time Commitment:

    • Flexible hours.
    • Ability to meet agreed-upon deadlines is critical.

    Writing and Research Skills:

    • Strong written communication skills with attention to detail and clarity.
    • Proficiency in researching funders and interpreting grant guidelines.
    • Familiarity with grant writing tools or databases is a plus.

    Collaboration and Communication:

    • Regular communication with the team to stay updated on organizational needs and priorities.
    • Openness to feedback and willingness to revise proposals as needed.

    Professionalism:

    • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive organizational information.
    • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the nonprofit’s mission and values.

    Outcomes:

    • Submit high-quality grant applications that reflect the organization’s mission and goals.
    • Assist in meeting or exceeding fundraising goals through successful grant submissions.

What You Bring to the Role:

    • Previous grant writing or fundraising experience is a plus but not required.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Passion for the mission of Not Defined By FND and a desire to make a positive impact.

This volunteer position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about nonprofit work and want to use their writing and research skills to create meaningful change. Training and resources will be provided as needed to help you succeed in this role.

    Benefits:

    • Make a Difference: Contribute directly to an organization making a positive impact in the community.
    • Skill Development: Gain valuable experience in grant writing and nonprofit fundraising.
    • Networking Opportunities: Connect with professionals in the philanthropic sector.
    • Flexible Schedule: Work remotely and set your own hours (within reason).
