We are seeking volunteer board members who are committed to advancing FYI's mission. We seek dedicated individuals who reflect the diversity of our program participants' identities through gender, race, culture, and life experience. Prior or current affiliation with the organization or lived foster care experience is highly valued for Board membership. The Board also considers the skills and services that an individual can contribute to the work of the DCFYI Board and fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities. Candidates with skills in financial management, fundraising/capital campaigns, and communications/marketing, are particularly valued.
While bi-monthly board meetings are held remotely, several Board member service expectations require in-person attendance in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
The typical Board member volunteers for approximately 40-50 hours of service over the course of the year. Board members are expected to serve a three-year term fulfilling the following duties:
