    Peer Support Program Manager

    About Miracle Workers Alliance (MWA):

    Miracle Workers Alliance (MWA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving mental health through community support and engagement. We create safe online inclusive spaces where individuals are able to thrive. Our current programs, including Gamers for Wellness & Peer Support, provide mental health resources through innovative and interactive platforms such as online gaming, virtual events, and 1-on-1 support on Discord.

    +++

    Role Overview:

    MWA is seeking a compassionate and organized Peer Support Program Manager to lead our volunteer-based peer support program, offering safe and confidential spaces for individuals to connect and talk about their mental health (currently on our Discord server). This volunteer leadership role is ideal for someone with a passion for mental wellness, lived experience, and a deep commitment to peer-led support.

    As Program Manager, you will oversee volunteer peer supporters, maintain quality and ethical standards, and help grow the program's reach and impact across our community platforms. You’ll collaborate with MWA leadership and mental health advocates to ensure peer support is safe, supportive, and accessible to all.

    Commitment: 10–20 hours per week (remote)

    Compensation: Unpaid

    This role is perfect for empathetic leaders with a heart for mental health and a desire to empower others through peer connection.

    +++

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee daily operations of the Peer Support program on Discord and related platforms.
    • Recruit, onboard, and support volunteer peer supporters.
    • Facilitate training on peer support principles, active listening, and crisis protocols.
    • Create and enforce guidelines that ensure a safe, non-clinical, and inclusive environment.
    • Develop a peer matching or scheduling system for 1-on-1 support sessions.
    • Monitor channels and volunteer interactions for quality, safety, and alignment with best practices.
    • Collaborate with the Mental Health Advisors and executive leadership on program growth and safety improvements.
    • Gather feedback from participants and volunteers to enhance the program’s structure.
    • Work with the Marketing Team to raise awareness and destigmatize peer support.
    • Respond to incidents and escalate safety concerns appropriately following internal guidelines.
    • Provide monthly reports on impact, volunteer activity, and participant engagement.

    +++

    Qualifications:

    • Experience providing or managing peer support (formal or informal).
    • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, empathy, and confidentiality.
    • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
    • Ability to support volunteers and build community in virtual spaces.
    • Familiarity with Discord moderation and support tools is a plus.
    • Preferred background in mental health, psychology, or social work (can be lived experience or coursework).
    • Knowledge of referral processes and how to stay within the peer support role (not providing therapy).
    • Passion for supporting others and building stigma-free mental health spaces.

    +++

    Why Join Us?

    • Empower others through safe, community-led support networks.
    • Gain experience in mental health peer support leadership and volunteer coordination.
    • Make a real difference in the lives of people who feel isolated or unheard.
    • Recognition in MWA’s community channels.
    • Written letter of recommendation from the CEO.
    • Build your resume in nonprofit and mental wellness spaces.
    • Earn volunteer hours while helping shape a life-saving initiative.

    This is a unique opportunity to lead a mental health support network that centers empathy, dignity, and peer connection in a digital world.
