Our adult learners come from all over the world and have diverse educational backgrounds and English proficiency levels. As a volunteer tutor, you can support them in:
- Improving English skills for everyday communication
- Developing digital literacy, from basic computer skills to navigating online tools
- Preparing for employment, including resume writing, interview practice, and workplace communication

- One-on-one or small group tutoring sessions tailored to your learner’s goals
- Online or in-person (Chicago locations in Belmont-Cragin, Ukrainian Village, and Uptown neighborhoods)
- No prior teaching experience required — we provide training and ongoing support
Volunteer Requirements:
- Complete an initial phone interview and volunteer application
- Sign a volunteer service agreement
- Complete DCFS Mandated Reporter training and sign the acknowledgement form
- Pass a background check (approximately $25 fee)
- Complete Tutor Essentials online training (free and self-paced)
- Be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate
- Live or work in Illinois (per funder guidelines)
- Commit to 1-3 hours a week for a minimum of 3 months
