    Description

Generational Wealth Educators (GWE) is seeking a financially savvy and mission-driven volunteer to serve as Board Treasurer. This executive officer role provides fiscal oversight and financial leadership at the governance level, ensuring transparency, compliance, and sustainability as GWE empowers low-income and underserved communities through financial education, wellness, and homeownership.

The Treasurer works closely with the Executive Director and financial partners to ensure that the board is well-informed and that all financial activity aligns with nonprofit best practices and GWE’s long-term goals.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee the development and review of financial policies and ensure board adoption when necessary
    • Assist with the annual budgeting process and present the draft budget for board review and approval
    • Ensure the board receives timely and accurate monthly or quarterly financial statements
    • Alert the board to significant budget discrepancies, cash flow issues, or financial risks
    • Ensure GWE maintains accurate, compliant financial records and filings (e.g., IRS, payroll, grants)
    • Serve as a co-signer on checks and financial authorizations as designated in the bylaws
    • Oversee proper handling of donations, reserves, and grant reporting
    • Meet annually (or as needed) with the external auditor or financial reviewer and ensure follow-up on any findings
    • Collaborate on the Annual Report and present the Treasurer’s Report at the Annual Meeting
    • Support the board in understanding key financial trends, performance, and decisions
    • Recommend changes to auditors or financial service providers when appropriate

    Ideal Candidate

    • Background in finance, accounting, nonprofit management, or business
    • Understanding of nonprofit financial reporting and compliance (or willingness to learn)
    • Experience reviewing or managing budgets, audits, or financial policies
    • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets)
    • High attention to detail and commitment to integrity and accountability
    • Ability to communicate financial matters clearly to non-financial audiences
    • Passion for community empowerment, economic justice, and financial literacy

    Why Serve as GWE’s Treasurer?

Serving as Treasurer offers a unique opportunity to use your financial skills for social good. You’ll play a central role in ensuring that GWE’s programs are well-funded, well-managed, and well-positioned for growth — directly supporting our mission to build generational wealth in communities that need it most.
