"Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love" - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Every year, we organize a special beach cleanup and habitat restoration event to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. This is your chance to start the year off by making a meaningful difference in your community, connecting with nature, and honoring Dr. King’s legacy of service. Let’s come together to protect our beautiful coastline and marine life. Your efforts matter – be a part of this vital environmental movement!
Beach Cleanup with PBC - 9-11AM:
Meet us at 9AM at the Linda Mar Beach parking lot A next to the Taco Bell. Free parking passes will be provided when you check in. Sign up to volunteer at the beach cleanup and let us know you’re coming. Make sure that everyone in your party signs a waiver form.
Habitat Restoration with PBC - 10AM-1PM:
Meet at 10AM along the Coastal Trail (just north of the Highway 1 intersection). Parking is available in the Pacifica Community Center lot at 540 Crespi Drive, Pacifica. Free parking passes will be provided; see PBC parking attendant. (Note: This parking lot is closer to the meeting spot for the beach planting than the main Linda Mar Beach parking lots.) Sign up to volunteer at the habitat restoration and let us know you’re coming. Make sure that everyone in your party signs a waiver form.
More Details About our MLK Event in Pacifica:
If you’re attending the beach cleanup first, you may park in the main Linda Mar Beach lot. The site captains there will have parking passes for you after you check in for the cleanup. When you’re done cleaning up, walk north on the Coastal Trail to find us just after the big willow stand.
The closest parking for habitat restoration is at the Community Center. Walk across Highway 1 at the light, and then walk north (turn right) onto the Coastal Trail. Our team will be waiting for you just off the path, after the big willow stand.
Focus for Habitat Restoration: We will be planting native plants along the Coastal Trail, pulling oxalis and other invasive weeds, and possibly mulching new areas for future planting.
