    Teach English and make a lasting impact in Arequipa, Peru

    English with HOOP is an after-school space that provides a stimulating English learning environment for children and adolescents from the outskirts of Arequipa. This year, in our new Community Center, we seek to reach 100 children, aged 3 to 17.

    We feel SO ready for this, and would love to count on you!

    🏔️GENERAL INFORMATION

    • Volunteer title: Lead English Teacher
    • Based at: HOOP Community Center, Cerro Colorado, Arequipa, Peru
    • Time commitment: 1 month minimum (longer is preferable).
    • Position reports to: Education Coordinator
    • Program purpose summary: To improve the English speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills of the students in your class using the HOOP curriculum, effective lesson planning, and dynamic teaching methods, with the support of the Education Coordinator.

    • Quick-start quechua classes with moms of our community.
    • Workshops on quena flute and other traditional instruments.
    • Cooking classes with our moms! And a taste of yummy Peruvian food!
    • Workshops on traditional Peruvian dances!

    📝FUNCTIONS

    • Plan 50-minute classes for students between the ages of 3 - 17 (each volunteer will teach a specific age group, so they won’t have to plan for so many ages).
    • Teach English to one group of 20 students (Monday to Friday, 3:30 - 5:30 pm / Saturday, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm).
    • Participate in Education team meetings, alongside a few other general HOOP activities.

    Time commitment: We require a minimum commitment of 1 month (but predict that you'll stay for longer!).
