What is an Ultimate Hike Coach? Coaching for an Ultimate Hike is one of the most important volunteer roles at CureSearch. Your priority is safely training your hikers before event weekend, and working with other coaches, staff, and the event team to make sure the Ultimate Hike event is a safe as possible, but there is so much more. Because of you, someone is going to cross their first endurance finish line EVER! Because of you, someone is going to make a lifelong choice to get healthier and give back more. Because of you, a dad is going to feel empowered to fight back against a disease that is rendering his family helpless. Because of you, a mom will find a healthier way to grieve the loss of her child.
Coaching Ideals: We seek coaches that are team focused, educators/communicators on hiking, strong leadership skills and who can be both an empathizer and cheerleader for participants preparing for an endurance hike.
Commitment: Coaches lead 5-6 group hikes during the 12-week training period leading up to the Ultimate Hike. These hikes will become gradually longer in efforts to train participants for the long distance Send out weekly check in emails with the participants on your training roster – these emails remind hikers of the weekly mile goals, cross training ideas, gear and nutrition sharing and more. Coaches are part of the team at hike weekend. The primary role of a coach at hike weekend is to be on trail with hikers on Saturday. In addition, they host the meet and greet on Friday night and are a key part of building community at hike weekend. We appreciate coaches who can also arrive early on Friday to help set up and who can help breakdown on Sunday morning.
Benefits of Coaching: Other than helping end children’s cancer, spending time in the woods with AMAZING people, and getting fantastic reference letters if you ever need them, your biggest benefit is that you get to attend the weekend for free! You may need to get yourself to the hotel, and you will need to pay for an alcohol you wish to consume after hikers are safely off the train on Saturday, but we’ve got it from there. Coaches also receive a $500 fundraising credit that they can apply to another hike during the same calendar year or apply to another hiker.
