    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting students ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, we create safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to grow, thrive, and succeed. We believe every child deserves a promise kept — and we work every day to make that promise real.

MAP’s fashion initiative, Thread & Promise, uses design and apparel to raise awareness and generate support for our programs. Every piece carries a story of mentorship, resilience, and hope.

    Role Overview

We are seeking a Volunteer E-Commerce Manager to lead the digital storefront and online presence for Thread & Promise. This role will involve setting up, managing, and optimizing our e-commerce platform, ensuring customers enjoy a seamless shopping experience while supporting MAP’s mission. The ideal candidate has a blend of technical and creative skills, with experience in online retail and a passion for purpose-driven fashion.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Upload and maintain product listings with accurate descriptions, images, and pricing
    • Oversee order processing, fulfillment coordination, and customer inquiries
    • Monitor inventory and collaborate with design/production teams on availability
    • Optimize site navigation, design, and checkout flow for usability and conversions
    • Track e-commerce analytics and generate sales reports
    • Support digital marketing campaigns, promotions, and product launches
    • Ensure branding and storytelling are consistent across the platform

    Requirements

    • Proven experience in e-commerce management or online retail operations
    • Familiarity with platforms like Shopify, Squarespace, WooCommerce, or similar
    • Strong understanding of digital merchandising, product listings, and checkout flows
    • Ability to analyze sales and traffic data to inform improvements
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Strong communication and collaboration abilities
    • Passion for mission-driven work and socially conscious fashion
    • 5-10 hours per week

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience in nonprofit or social enterprise e-commerce
    • Knowledge of SEO, Google Analytics, and e-commerce marketing strategies
    • Familiarity with email marketing and CRM tools
    • Basic design skills for product imagery and graphics (Canva, Photoshop, or similar)

    What You’ll Gain

    • Hands-on experience managing an e-commerce platform for a purpose-driven brand
    • Opportunities to combine technical skills with creative storytelling
    • Collaboration with a mission-driven, passionate team
    • A portfolio project showcasing e-commerce management with social impact
    • Letters of recommendation and professional references for future opportunities
