    Description

Are you a Mechanical Engineer who wants to use your design skills to drive INNOVATION and create IMPACT in global EDUCATION?

WinWinLabs is a nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives by empowering communities with knowledge and practical tools. We are seeking a talented volunteer Mechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team to design rugged, functional, and easily reproducible enclosures for startup and community educational projects.

This is a powerful opportunity to see your designs move from the digital realm to real-world applications that solve pressing community challenges.

Role: Volunteer Mechanical Engineer (Device Enclosures)

    Location: Remote (Flexible Hours)

Commitment: minimum of 20 hours per week for at least 3 months.

    Key Responsibilities

Working closely with Electrical Engineers, Software Developers, and Field Teams, your primary responsibilities will include:

    • Enclosure Design: Designing protective, ergonomic, cases/enclosures for various educational projects.
    • DFM/DFA: Applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to ensure cases are easy to produce (often via 3D printing or simple molding) and assemble in local settings.
    • CAD Modeling: Creating detailed 3D models and 2D technical drawings using industry-standard CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, FreeCAD).
    • Material Selection: Recommending appropriate, cost-effective, and durable materials suited for deployment in diverse environmental conditions (e.g., high heat, moisture, dust).
    • Prototyping & Testing: Managing the physical prototyping process and testing enclosure designs for durability, ingress protection (IP ratings), and thermal management.

    Skills & Qualifications

    • Proven experience in 3D CAD modeling and creating professional technical drawings.
    • Strong understanding of injection molding, 3D printing, and sheet metal fabrication processes.
    • Knowledge of environmental sealing and stress analysis for protective enclosures.
    • Familiarity with various material properties (plastics, composites) and their suitability for outdoor/rugged applications.
    • Ability to integrate design constraints from the electrical and field teams (e.g., cable routing, port access, antenna placement).

If you are a Mechanical Engineer excited by the prospect of designing robust, impactful physical solutions that enable education and empowerment globally, we encourage you to apply!
