    Description

The Awareness Committee Lead supports the Board and Executive Director in advancing the organization’s visibility and storytelling by focusing on awareness (marketing) strategy, coordination, message alignment, and prioritization.

    Key Responsibilities

    Awareness Strategy & Alignment

    • Advance Board‑approved awareness goals (visibility, community engagement, donor/volunteer interest).
    • Translate annual priorities into clear committee focus areas (e.g., social media presence, storytelling, campaigns).
    • Maintain visibility into current/upcoming awareness activities to identify gaps, overlaps, and constraints early.

    Committee Leadership

    • Lead a small Awareness Committee; ensure members understand key messages, audiences, and tone.
    • Match work to volunteer strengths, interests, and availability; foster creativity, collaboration, and shared responsibility.
    • Recruit additional volunteers as needed (e.g., content creators, designers, writers).

    Executive Director Partnership

    • Hold regular check‑ins to align on key messages, priorities, timing, and discuss risks.
    • Coordinate awareness activities with fundraising, events, and programs.
    • Serve as a thought partner on sequencing, messaging, and prioritization.

    Message Alignment & Course Correction

    • Ensure messaging is accurate, consistent, audience‑appropriate, and aligned with org values and strategy.
    • Monitor awareness efforts at a high level (cadence, reach, engagement trends) using simple indicators.
    • Support timely adjustments when assumptions, bandwidth, or priorities shift.

    Board Communication

    • Provide periodic updates on awareness priorities, progress, insights, and needs.
    • Reinforce that awareness is a shared responsibility across the Board, staff, and volunteers.
    • Flag risks or issues early and document key materials or learnings in shared systems when appropriate.

    What Success Looks Like

    • The organization’s message is clear, consistent, and recognizable.
    • Awareness efforts are focused, achievable, and aligned with capacity.
    • Volunteers understand how they can contribute meaningfully.
    • Awareness activities support, rather than compete with, events and fundraising.
    • The Board and Executive Director feel aligned and informed.

    Ideal Skills & Experience

    • Experience with marketing, communications, social media, storytelling, content creation, or brand‑building (professional or volunteer).
    • Ability to lead volunteers with clarity, encouragement, and shared purpose.
    • Strong communication and facilitation skills.
    • Strategic mindset with the ability to prioritize and simplify.
    • Reliable, proactive, and able to keep efforts moving without overextending capacity.

    Time Commitment

    • All board members are required to attend quarterly virtual board meetings, a 1-day in-person strategy session (Sept/Oct), and attend 2–3 events annually.
    • Awareness Committee Lead: ~ 3–5 hours/month for planning, coordination, and meetings, plus additional time during major campaigns (defined in advance). Minimum 1-year commitment in the role.
