Description
The Heart of Art is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to using the performing arts as a gateway to foster literacy, education, creativity, and community building. We empower children and youth through programs that combine the magic of storytelling with the transformative power of the arts.
- Term of Service- April 1, 2026 – April 1, 2028 (Two-Year Term)
- Annual Board Contribution-Give-or-Get Requirement: $1,000 per year
- Location PreferenceDMV residents strongly preferred (Washington, DC; Maryland; Virginia)
General Expectations
All board members are expected to actively participate in governance, attend meetings, support fundraising, maintain confidentiality, and provide strategic guidance for organizational growth.
The Chair of Fundraising & Development leads the organization’s efforts to secure philanthropic support, sponsorships, and donor relationships that ensure The Heart of Art can expand its literacy and performing arts programs.
This role is essential to building a sustainable funding pipeline and strengthening community investment.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Leadership
- Design and lead fundraising campaigns, donor outreach, and sponsorship initiatives Bylaws- HOA Inaugural Year
- Partner with the Executive Director to identify funding priorities
- Support grant strategy, donor engagement events, and annual giving efforts
Donor & Community Relations
- Cultivate relationships with individual donors, corporations, and community funders
- Support stewardship practices that build long-term donor loyalty
Board Engagement
- Inspire and support fellow board members in meeting give-or-get expectations
- Develop creative fundraising opportunities aligned with the mission
Strategic Sustainability
- Help build long-term revenue strategies for organizational growth and program expansion
Qualifications
- Experience in fundraising, development, sales, or donor engagement
- Strong networking and relationship-building skills
- DMV-based connections strongly preferred
- Masters Degree required
Time Commitment
Approximately 15–25 hours/month
