    Description

Become A Mentor to an Elementary School Student!

The New York State Mentoring Program (NYSMP) is looking for caring, dependable adults to serve as site-based mentors for elementary students in Rensselaer, NY. As a site-based mentor, you'll spend one hour a week with a student at thier school during a specific time and day.

    What is site-based mentoring?

Unlike traditional mentoring that may take place outside of school hours, site-base mentoring happens at the school during the student's lunch or free period. It's structured, consistent, and supervised, making it easy for volunteers to fit into thier weekly routine.

We're Looking for Volunteers Who Are:

    • At least 18 years old
    • Friendly, patience and reliable
    • Able to commit to weekly visits during the school year
    • Willing to complete a background check and attend a virtual mentoring training

    Mentors Can:

    • Help a child develop confidence, self-esteem and social skills
    • Build meaningful connections
    • Give back to your community in just 1 hour a week
