    Description

    Toronto Biosphere Eco-City (TBEC) is seeking a deputy leader for a small group of volunteers, to

    continue development of a Youth Climate Action (YCA) project. In this this initiative, youth look at

    summaries of sustainability projects posted on the TBEC website at https://toronto.bioecocity.org/.

    Following the steps in a short manual, they then submit their ideas on how any of those projects can

    provide benefits for climate. YCA team volunteers consolidate youth input in a report on the TBEC

    website. The University of Toronto has distributed a project invitation to its environmental studies

    students. Discussions are now underway to begin the YCA project in two Toronto high schools.

    The TBEC YCA team currently has four members, including a team leader. The Deputy Leader

    would share some of the team’s organizational work and lead monthly meetings when the leader

    cannot attend.

    About Biosphere Eco-Cities

    A Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) includes an urban core and surrounding rural area. The BEC approach

    uses simple projects and Themes to engage people and develop a culture of sustainability. For more

    information, view https://bioecocity.org/. BEC Canada (BECC) coordinates initiatives in five cities

    – Ottawa, Toronto, Brampton, Edmonton and Vancouver. All teams are volunteer.

    Key Responsibilities of this Position:

    Team Coordination: Help organize monthly team meetings and track progress

    Training & Onboarding: Explain the work and generally support team members

    Engagement: Participate in monthly team meetings and quarterly national BECC meetings.
