    Description

    Garden Project Coordinator

Soldiers’ Angels – San Antonio | VA Polytrauma Transitional Rehabilitation Program (PTRP)

    5–10 hours/week | On-site at VA PTRP + light remote admin work

Must be able to obtain a VA badge

Soldiers’ Angels is looking for a compassionate, organized, and service-minded Garden Project Coordinator to lead our therapeutic garden initiative at the VA Polytrauma Transitional Rehabilitation Program (PTRP). This volunteer leadership role is perfect for someone who loves gardening, enjoys working with people, and wants to support veterans on their journey toward healing and independence.

    🌱 About the Role

The Garden Project Coordinator will oversee the volunteer operations and garden maintenance at the PTRP garden site. You’ll help ensure the garden thrives year-round while creating meaningful volunteer opportunities that support the veterans in this specialized rehabilitation program.

    🌿 Key Responsibilities

    Volunteer Coordination

    • Recruit, welcome, and train volunteers to support garden care
    • Build and manage watering, weeding, and harvesting schedules
    • Ensure volunteers are engaged, informed, and following VA guidelines
    • Provide leadership on-site during volunteer days

    Garden Operations

    • Oversee planting cycles, watering, pruning, and general upkeep
    • Coordinate harvesting of crops and ensure safe, sustainable practices
    • Track garden progress and identify needs or improvements
    • Work alongside PTRP teams when applicable to support therapeutic engagement activities

    Administrative & Ordering Support

    • Maintain volunteer sign-in sheets and track hours
    • Assist with ordering seeds, soil, tools, and other garden supplies
    • Provide weekly updates to Soldiers’ Angels staff on garden conditions and volunteer activity

    🌻 Ideal Candidate

You’ll be a great fit if you are:

    • Organized, dependable, and proactive
    • Comfortable with basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets, signups)
    • Passionate about gardening and community service
    • An effective communicator who enjoys coordinating volunteers
    • Able to complete the VA badging process (we’ll help you through it!)
    • Available 5–10 hours per week

Garden or horticulture experience is a plus but not required—we’re looking for heart, leadership, and reliability.

    🌞 Why This Role Matters

The PTRP supports veterans recovering from life-changing injuries by helping them regain independence and quality of life. A thriving garden not only provides fresh produce—it brings peace, purpose, and connection. Your leadership ensures this therapeutic space flourishes and continues to benefit veterans and volunteers alike.

🌼 Ready to Help Our Garden—and Our Veterans—Grow?

If you want to make a difference through hands-on service, community leadership, and the healing power of nature, we’d love to connect with you.
