    Description

AFS -USA International, Intercultural Opportunity to Work with HS Exchange Students & their families

AFS-USA Intercultural Programs is a leading international exchange program in the world. It has been successfully hosting and sending students and teachers on exchanges since 1947 to over ninety (90) partner countries.

The founding of AFS (The American Field Service), the ambulance drivers in WW I and WW II, was over 100 years ago. AFS international students are spread throughout TN, MS, KY and Alabama. Many school systems will not be accepting students this fall, but may in Spring. Check with your school system befeore applying to hosts. More host families for the future and volunteers to support those who are here now are needed by the Miss Tennky Area AFS Volunteer Leadership Team for the next school year. Many varied volunteer positions are available. The time you spend will depend on the time you have and wish to give. These are some examples: cluster chair, area chair, liaisons, interviewers, orientation organizers and workers, festival workers, school visitors, plus lunch and activity booth workers, treasurer, newsletter chair and writers, public speakers for community clubs and churches, public relations, sending chair and etc. There is online training for many of these positions.

Contact Becky Heywood, volunteer coordinator and area chair at 615-473-4389 and AFSbecky@comcast.net, to discover which volunteer jobs would be perfect for you on the Miss Tennky Area AFS Team. One can register online at www.afsusa.org/volunteer-with-afs and look at the team website at http/afsusa.org/misstennky/

Christina.pettinelli@afsusa.org serves as the sending coordinator for students who wish to go as foreign exchange students to one of AFS-USA's 90 partner countries. There are summer, semester, year long and gap year program. They may be viewed at www.afsusa.org/stiudy-abroad. Many different types of scholarships are available and vary from year to year. Deadlines begin January 9th with Congress-Bundestag and FLEX. Other dates vary.

Contact ksullivan@afsusa.org if you are interested in hosting an AFSer. She is the Miss Tennky Area AFS Volunteer Leadership Support Team Development Specialist. The web site is www.afsusa.org/host where you may put in your zip code to see the mini-bios who will need a family for 2025-26. Some school syst. ems will accept students at semester, but not CMCSS. MNPS will accept second semester students. This fall CMCSS will not be accepting students in the fall. MNPS and Williamson County will accept AFSer in the fall. You should contact your school system to be sure they will be accepting AFSers before you begin a hosting application. The local web site is http://afsusa.org/misstennky/. Students who are in need of hosting come with spending money, a wealth of interests and talents and are fully medically insured. You furnish the loving home, transportation and food. Hope you will join us and share this information with others.
