    Human Resources Volunteer || Volunteer Coordination Team

    What if you could be part of making Africa great and change things for good. OpenGov Africa is a civic-tech STEM startup using open source technology, data, and community-driven innovation to reimagine governance, strengthen transparency, and empower citizen participation across Africa.

    As a new startup, we are seeking a team of 5 dedicated Human Resources Volunteers to help build and manage the people side of OpenGov Africa from the scratch. As an HR Volunteer, you will play a critical role in supporting recruitment, onboarding, volunteer engagement, and fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusivity in our community.

    This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about people, culture, and systems that help teams thrive.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Recruitment & Outreach: Assist in posting roles, screening applicants, and managing recruitment via platforms such as LinkedIn, Idealist, and VolunteerMatch.
    • Onboarding & Orientation: Design and oversee onboarding processes for new volunteers to ensure smooth integration into the organization.
    • Volunteer Engagement: Support strategies to keep volunteers motivated, engaged, and aligned with OpenGov Africa’s mission.
    • HR Policies & Documentation: Help develop and document policies (e.g., Code of Conduct, diversity & inclusion practices).
    • Conflict Resolution: Provide support in addressing volunteer concerns, promoting healthy communication and team well-being.
    • Team Collaboration: Work closely with leadership, project managers, and the volunteer coordination team.

    Qualifications

    • Experience or strong interest in human resources, people operations, or volunteer management(prior nonprofit experience is a plus).
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a remote environment.
    • Passion for open governance, civic engagement, or social impact.
    • Organized, proactive, and people-oriented.

    Expected Requirements

    • Time Commitment: Approx. 4-6 hours per week (flexible, remote).
    • Commitment Period: Minimum 3 months preferred.
    • Remote Work: Must have reliable internet access.
