About Us
Finding Kids is a nonprofit organization dedicated to locating and recovering missing and exploited children. Our work supports families, investigators, and partner organizations during critical, time-sensitive cases.
We are currently modernizing our technology stack—migrating from legacy, manual workflows to a secure, automated Microsoft 365 ecosystem. This includes SharePoint architecture, Power Platform automation, identity and access management, and a security-first operating model.
We’re seeking an IT Systems Administrator Intern who wants hands-on experience helping build this infrastructure from the ground up.
Volunteer with Finding Kids
Finding Kids is in an active modernization phase—migrating from fragmented, manual processes to a security-first Microsoft 365 ecosystem. This role is not limited to helpdesk work. As an IT Systems Intern, you will help design, document, and support the cloud infrastructure that powers real-world investigations.
You’ll work directly with the IT Systems Administrator and contribute to initiatives involving SharePoint architecture, Power Platform automation, identity and access management, and cybersecurity hygiene. Your work will be used by real teams, in real operations, with real impact.
Time Commitment: 5–10 hours per week (flexible, remote-friendly)
What You’ll Build and Support
- Workflow Engineering
- Assist in designing, testing, and refining Power Automate workflows

- Perform data entry, cleanup, and testing within SharePoint and Power Platform tools
- SharePoint Architecture & Cloud Systems
- Support the migration to a structured SharePoint environment
- Help organize document libraries, metadata, and permissions
- Assist with Microsoft 365 administration (Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint)
- Security & Identity (Security-First Mindset)
- Assist with identity and access management using Microsoft Entra ID
- Help implement and maintain least-privilege access controls
- Monitor and report phishing attempts or security events
- Contribute to cybersecurity awareness and internal best practices
- IT Support & Operations
- Provide Tier 1 IT support (account access, password resets, basic troubleshooting)
- Assist with onboarding and offboarding users
- Help improve the staff experience within Microsoft 365 tools
- Documentation & Knowledge Building
- Create and maintain IT documentation, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides
- Help build a centralized Technical Single Source of Truth
- Research and evaluate tools, workflows, and best practices to strengthen operations
What You’ll Gain:
- Power Platform Experience: Hands-on exposure to Power Automate (and Power Apps where applicable) in real production scenarios
- Cloud Administration Skills: Practical experience supporting Microsoft 365 and Entra ID environments
- Modern Security Foundations: Exposure to identity-first security, least-privilege access, and nonprofit data protection practices
- Direct Mission Impact: Your configurations and workflows directly support the recovery of missing children
- Mentorship: Regular collaboration with the IT Systems Administrator on architecture, career growth, and emerging technologies
Who You Are
- A Problem Solver: You don’t stop at ‘it’s broken’—you want to understand why and how to improve it
- Tech-Curious: Interested in cloud infrastructure, automation, and low-code/no-code platforms
- Detail-Oriented: You understand that misconfigurations, permissions, and data handling matter—especially in sensitive environments
- A Clear Communicator: You can explain technical concepts to non-technical teammates with patience and clarity
- Ethical & Trustworthy: You respect confidentiality and sensitive information
Preferred (Not Required)
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive)
- Basic understanding of logic-based workflows (if/then thinking)
- Coursework or interest in IT, cybersecurity, systems administration, or cloud platforms
- Strong organizational skills and clear communication
- Ability to work independently with attention to detail
- Eagerness to learn and contribute to a mission-focused team
