    Description

    Position: RESJ FACES In-Home Tutoring (Pre-K - 5 th Grade)

    Program Area: RESJ FACES (Racial Equity and Social Justice Family and Community Engagement Services)

    Location: In person at the homes of families from selected Portland Public Elementary Schools.

    Schedule: Must have availability during evenings and after-school hours. Volunteers must commit to working a minimum of 1-2 hours per week for at least 8 weeks (about 2 months).

    Program Description: RESJ FACES programming provides racial equity and social justice-centered, community minded, culturally dynamic, multilingual/multicultural support to African, Asian, Pacific Islander and Slavic Immigrant and Refugee families, caregivers, and students.

    Position Summary: The RESJ FACES program seeks dedicated, responsible, and culturally mindful

    volunteers to support Pre-K through 5th grade Immigrant and Refugee students with academic and

    culturally specific activities at selected schools in the Portland Public School District. An interview,

    orientation and background check are required.

    Qualifications:

    • Have a passion for helping students achieve their goals.
    • Commitment to working with diverse populations and non-native English speakers.
    • Fluency in any of the following languages is helpful, but not a requirement: Vietnamese, Somali, Maay-Maay, Tongan or Russian language.
    • Provide academic support to Pre K-5th grade students in math and literacy.
    • Interest in participating in "in-home tutoring" and or "group activities" that support family connection, cultural identity, wellness and wellbeing and cultural sharing within the larger school community.
    • Ability to build good relationships with students and parents to pursue the students' academic goals.

    Time Commitment: Volunteers must commit to working a minimum of 1-2 hours per week for at least 8

    weeks (about 2 months)

    Requirements:

    • Must be 18 or older
    • Must pass background check
    • Drivers license needed
