    Description

    Working closely with the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Director (Interim, Unpaid) will lead CommonAct through a critical growth phase focused on execution, credibility, and institutional readiness.

    This role is accountable for turning strategy into action—strengthening operations, advancing core programs, and positioning CommonAct for sustainable funding. The ED will play a central role in building systems, demonstrating early impact, and helping the organization transition toward a fully funded leadership structure.

    This is a hands-on, execution-heavy role, suited for someone who wants real responsibility and influence rather than a symbolic title.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Provide overall operational leadership for CommonAct, ensuring alignment between mission, strategy, and day-to-day execution
    • Lead the planning and delivery of active programs, with a clear focus on measurable outcomes and real-world impact
    • Establish and maintain internal systems for operations, reporting, and accountability appropriate to an early-stage organization
    • Work closely with the Board and CEO to translate strategic priorities into executable plans
    • Support institutional fundraising efforts by engaging funders, refining organizational narratives, and advancing funding conversations
    • Oversee budget tracking, financial discipline, and resource allocation in coordination with the Board
    • Represent CommonAct externally with collaborators, funders, and stakeholders, maintaining professional credibility and trust
    • Manage, coordinate, and mentor staff, volunteers, and consultants, setting clear expectations and performance standards
    • Ensure timely reporting, documentation, and compliance with governance

    Compensation

    This is an unpaid, interim leadership role.

    A modest stipend may be introduced once initial funds are secured. The role is expected to transition to a compensated Executive Director position subject to performance and funding availability.
